The mystique and significance of The Boneyard have garnered the attention of scholars from distant lands, although the site's inherent dangers, most notably Gloomfang, dissuade many from exploring it too closely.

Beneath the Surface of The Boneyard

• Deeper Layers: Below the visible layers of gigantic bones and fossilized remnants, The Boneyard hides more than just soil and rock. • Drow City: Xanatharion: Far beneath the Black Marsh, removed from the light of the world above, lies Xanatharion, a sprawling Drow city. The Drow of Xanatharion have long coveted the energies seeping from The Boneyard, seeking to harness them for their arcane practices.

• Mycelium Networks: In the damp caverns around Xanatharion, Myconids—fungus-based sentient beings—thrive, forming vast networks of bioluminescent communities. These Myconids occasionally interact with the Drow, trading spores and information.

• Spiders in the Dark: Giant Spiders, creatures adapted to the lightless environment, serve as mounts and beasts of burden within this subterranean ecosystem. The Drow have mastered riding these formidable creatures, using them for patrol and transport.

• Mystical Convergence: The magical energies from The Boneyard influence the ecosystem of the Underdark, enhancing the natural abilities of both the Myconids and the Spiders, and providing the Drow with a potent source of power.
